Reception

School starts at 8.50am until 3pm and includes a morning and afternoon break as well as lunchtime.

In Reception we have three classes each with a teacher and a Nursery Nurse. We are a unit, planning and working together.

We have the use of four rooms and children are free during the day to access activities in all rooms. During any day in Reception you could expect to see formal lessons, informal group work, quiet times, noisy times, structured times and free times. All of these sessions are planned and organised.

The children will work in groups, as a whole class or as individuals. Sometimes they will be directed to an activity and sometimes they will initiate their own learning. We recognise that our children learn in different ways and provide a wide range of learning possibilities both indoors and outdoors.

As part of the Foundation Stage the Reception staff will teach a curriculum to further a child's

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication, language and literacy skills
  • Mathematical development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development

In the first few weeks we carry out a series of observations called The Foundation Stage Profile in all of these six areas this will help us to plan and set targets for each child as an individual.
