Year 6 Play Leaders from Franche Community Primary School have been rewarded for all their hard work by attending the Xtreme Sports Festival held at the Glades Leisure Centre in Kidderminster.
The Festival was organised by the Wyre Forest School Sport Partnership Programme and offers a fun, exciting way to learn or improve pupil’s skateboarding and skating skills. European champion Neil Danns was on hand to develop skills and techniques with the children.
The children from Franche Community Primary School all took part in Play Leader training last year. This was provided by Jumping Jacks Training as part of the PE and Schools Sport Co-ordination Programme run by County Sports Development. Since then they have been helping lunchtime supervisors to introduce play activities throughout the school during the lunchtime break. The children gave up their own time after school to attend the training and had to undergo a practical assessment before passing the course.
Mrs Val Weddell-Hall, Head teacher at the school said “it’s wonderful to be able to reward their hard work with this exciting opportunity and to recognise the work they are doing every day at lunchtime with their fellow pupils. These are valuable skills they will be taking with them when they progress to senior school next year.”

After a bright start the weather worsened but despite the muddy conditions the children enjoyed the thrill of playing matches on the Warriors training pitches and spending some time in the Sixways Stadium. They also took part in a question and answer session with Chris Horseman who currently plays for the Welsh national team.
Matt Warren, PE Co-ordinator at Franche Community Primary School said “the children benefited greatly from the coaching sessions held at school with the Worcester Warriors, and were then delighted to be invited to go to the rugby ground and show off the skills they had learned. It was a fantastic opportunity and a real day to remember”.
