Dance - 'I Like to Move it!'  - Jan 11

Wednesday 19th January marked 555 days until the start of the London 2012 Olympics.  Children and staff at Franche Community Primary School took part in a world record attempt for the most competitors in a simultaneous dance.

This was in conjunction with over 362 primary and secondary schools across the UK.  In total, 555 participants from Franche entered the event and were required to follow a set routine created by Official Young Ambassadors for the Olympic and Paralympic values.  Our children thoroughly enjoyed practising this routine as part of their daily exercise intake.

Emma Running, Key Stage 2 P.E Co-ordinator led this celebration and wanted to thank all those involved both in school and part of the School Sport Partnerships saying, "events such as these are extremely exciting and beneficial  to promoting a fun yet healthy lifestyle for our pupils’. It also helps to celebrate the power of school sport in uniting people and showcasing the strength of School Sport Partnerships and the work that has and continues to be achieved.”

Official adjudications have been sent away and Franche are currently awaiting the news to see whether the world record has been successfully achieved.

Football - Nov 10

On Friday 19th November, Year 6  Franche football team (A) played against St Johns in the Fun Friday Harriers’ Football league. Poor weather nearly prevented play but did not affect the effort or determination of our players resulting in a 2-0 victory. The first goal was scored by Charlie Morris followed in the second half by a tremendous goal from Declan Bibb.

Not forgetting our B team, unfortunately due to short numbers from St Johns, Franche had to lend some players for this friendly match. Great attitude and effort meant all those involved enjoyed the game but sadly resulted in a 4-0 loss.

Several games have been played over this term and it is easy to see that all players have thoroughly enjoyed the competition and the training provided by excellent coaches provided by Kidderminster Harriers. A tournament was held at Baxter College (sponsored by Clarks of Kidderminster) just before October half term which resulted in our A team successfully winning against St Johns, Wilden and St Oswalds. Training is beginning to slow down with Christmas in sight but will continue in January after the well-deserved break. Keep it up Franche!

Cross Country - Nov 10

Our U11 and U10 Cross Country teams took part in the annual Wyre Forest Competition held at St Anne’s Primary School on Friday 12th November.

The teams were split into four groups: U10 boys, U10 girls, U11 boys and U11 girls competing with up to 80 other children per group. Vigorous training and hard work prior to the event allowed the U10 team to finish 3rd and U11 team to finish 5th. Overall, when combined, Franche successfully finished in 3rd place.

Emma Running, PE Co-ordinator said “Our teams have worked extremely hard over the last couple of weeks. Mr Pritchard and I are very proud of them and they are each a credit to the school!”

To add to the successful results, Grace Smith managed to finish in 1st place for the U11 girls and Charlotte Hale finishing in 6th place for the U10 girls. The girls will be competing for the Wyre Forest School Sport Partnership at County Sport Partnership Event on Friday 28th January, Top Barn Outdoor Centre. We wish them both the very best of luck.

After School Table Tennis Club has winning formula!

The after school Table Tennis Club based at Franche Community Primary School has the right formula when it comes to winning events. Rohan Hipwell (right in the photograph) recently won the Worcestershire Schools Individual Table Tennis Championship Under 11 section and got through to the quarter finals of the Under 13 section. To do this he had to beat many of his team mates from the Franche club. There were four current members of the club in the quarter finals and two in the semi final. The toughest match for Rohan was the semi final when he won after being two sets down to Harry Higginson also a member of the club. Rohan then went on the beat Daniel Norcutt from Worcester in the final. He now goes through to the National School Finals in Stoke at the end of April. On the day there were eight titles to be won and five of them went to the Franche Community Primary School team.

The after school Table Tennis Club has always been successful at training future winners. Adam Nutland (top right) who now attends Wolverley High School and started table tennis at the club is helping coach at the school sessions. Adam, who is 15, is the current County Champion and gives invaluable guidance to the group that meet regularly after school.
