Year 4 Violin Tuition and Performance - March 09

Thanks to the Government initiative “Play to Learn” giving every child in Key Stage 2 the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, all children in Year 4 at Franche Community Primary School have been given the chance to learn a variety of instruments.

Last term it was the drums and this term the children have learned to play the Violin and Cello. In fact their progress has been so good that they entertained parents and staff today by playing a few pieces and showcasing the skills they have learned.

Lynn Thomas (Mum to Chloe pictured left) said "I was a little dubious about a concert with 60 plus children who had learnt the violin in such a short space of time but I was VERY pleasantly suprised."

Mrs Julie Thompson and Mrs Mary Howles from Worcester Youth Music have been teaching the children once a week for the last term and during the performance told parents how they had been made to feel extremely welcome and how much they had enjoyed their time at the school.

Matt Warren, Year 4 teacher, said “the children have had great fun learning the different instruments and have made huge progress. This is a fantastic opportunity for our children to learn a variety of instruments during their time in year 4. We can’t wait to move on to other instruments next term."
