Children’s Centre Grand Official Opening brings in much needed funds for China’s earthquake victims

Franche Children’s Centre celebrated its official opening on 21st May and in doing so raised a fantastic £620 for the Red Cross appeal for victims of the Chinese earthquake.

The Children’s Centre, based at Franche Community Primary School, has been running for over two years and arranged the official opening to celebrate its success so far within the local community and to spread the word about the services and activities available to local families with children up to the age of five.

The cheque for £620 was presented to Mrs Sherry Keysell, a parent and Early Years Worker at FrancheCommunity Primary School whose family is from the area hardest hit by the earthquake, by Julie Strutt, Manager of Franche Children's Centre. She is collecting as much as possible for the Red Cross to help those affected.

Children's Centre Grand Celebration and Open Afternoon

Activities galore mark the celebratory opening of Franche Children’s Centre

Franche Children’s Centre was celebrating its official opening this week with a fun packed afternoon of activities for the local community.

School children from Franche Community Primary School started the event by singing their welcome song and Mrs Liz Eyre, a Local Councillor and Cabinet Member for Children and Young People cut the celebratory red ribbon alongside the Chairman of Franche 726 Mr Roger Lewis and Julie Strutt who manages the Centre.

Roger Lewis said “The Centre is an important and exciting addition to this community as it offers a single point of contact for families with children aged up to 5 years to access wide ranging support and activities specifically designed for them and their children.” He added “Today is all about welcoming our local families into the Centre and showing them what support and activities are available and I’m delighted to see such a good turnout.”

Franche Children’s Centre, run by Franche 726, works very closely with outside agencies such as JobCentre Plus, the Family Information Service and Homestart to offer support and access to health services, career guidance and lifelong learning to families along with activities such as baby yoga, toddler groups, tots splashtime and fundamental gymnastics.

During the celebrations the baby yoga demonstration was a great attraction together with activities such as face painting, animal balloons, pony riding, football shootout and a drum workshop. The event was also supported by the local Police and Fire Brigade.

Julie Strutt, Children Centre Manager said “We’ve had a lovely sunny afternoon to help us celebrate the opening of the Centre. Many of our families are here enjoying the activities and we hope that more families will come and use the centre and discover what we can do for them” she continued “If families in our local community have children 5 and under then we hope they’ll come along to the centre. We have a full timetable of activities and it’s a great way to meet other families with young children”.
